Signups are underway for Burbank Park District's youth travel basketball program. The Fusion Fire Travel Basketball Program is for those players who have the desire for higher competition. The Fire program will consist of drills/skills, sports specific training, league play and two tournaments.
The Fusion Fire Travel Program is open to 5th-8th grade boys and 7th-8th grade girls.
According to the Park District, "Our program is committed to expand on player’s knowledge and skills but most importantly, focus facilitating learning and development for the person. Beyond the individual skills, our program aims to help players grow and develop for life. Our goal is to help all players develop with exercise, strength and agility, along with a positive and competitive environment."
League games will be played on Wednesdays for 5th through 7th grade boys, Thursdays for 8th grade boys, and Saturdays for 7th and 8th grade girls. Boys games are played at Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge; girls games at Bridgeview Park District.
The fee for this program is $170 (down from $200 last year) and includes uniforms, team training, league and tournaments. Practices will be held Fridays beginning Oct. 17 and run through Mar. 6.
The Park District also announced two new basketball programs this year; Fusion Fire Basketball League and Fusion Mini-Fire Basketball League.
The Fusion Fire League is open to 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls. This co-ed league will play on regulation height rims and use a junior size basketball to create confidence and self-esteem. Scores will be kept. Park District staff and volunteer coaches will emphasize passing, dribbling and shooting in 8 practices and 5 games.
Fusion Mini-Fire Basketball League is open to 4 year-olds and K-2nd grade students. Smaller balls and lower goal height will be used to give the players an opportunity to make more shots and build self confidence. No score will be kept for the younger division so there is no pressure to win, just have fun. Players will learn passing, shooting, dribbling and game play. Each team will have 3 practices and then 5 games. T-Shirts provided in fee.
