Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) or Athlete's Heart is a disease that affects the muscle of the heart and is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes.
Robert "Bobbo" Regalado was a young athlete and a Reavis Ram baseball player. On April 30, 2009, Robby returned home from baseball practice complaining of a headache. A short time later he was found unconscious by his brother. Despite lifesaving efforts by paramedics, Robby succumbed to undiagnosed HCM that fateful April day.
In the wake of Robby's passing, his family established Bobbo's Fund for Young Hearts (a 501(c) (3) Public Charity). The fund's purpose is to battle cardiac death in young people by raising money for heart screenings and the purchase of portable AED's for local schools and youth sport organizations.
On Sunday, May 11, 2014, Bobbo's Fund will host it's 4th Annual "Bobbo's Walk," a 4 mile walk beginning and ending at Reavis High School. Start time is 8 a.m.
