The Burbank Park District will host their 4th annual “Pet-A-Palooza," Saturday, Sept. 27 at Newcastle Park, 8050 S. Newcastle Ave. Pets and owners are invited to this event honoring our four-legged friends. Although geared toward our canine companions, Pet-A-Palooza is a celebration of all pets and is not limited to dogs.
In addition to the pet-focused fun, this year's event will include a Bark For Life walk. Billed as "a canine event to fight cancer," Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer. Bark For Life is an American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraising event that honors the care giving qualities of canine companions.
There is a $20 tax deductible donation fee per dog to participate in the Bark For Life walk which will step-off at 9 a.m. Pet-A-Palooza is a free event from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Pet-A-Palooza will feature music, food, a variety of vendors and crafters, Petcasso Caricatures, and pet contests with prizes awarded to the winners. In addition to Smallest Pet, Musical Sit, and Doggie Push-Ups, new contests this year include Pet & Owner Costume Contest, Turtle Race, and Hamster Derby.
Burbank PupScout Troop 8 plans to raffle gift baskets and conduct a split-the-pot raffle with proceeds benefiting Bark For Life.
Both Animal Welfare League (AWL) and National Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) will be on-site with adoptable pets looking for their forever homes. Last year's event produced the successful adoption of a puppy named Ivy.
Event organizer and park district dog trainer Kimmy Bandusky said, "Ivy was rescued last year, she was a pity pup from the Animal Welfare League. She participated in [Burbank Park District's] obedience class and is a successful puppy graduate. The owners text me once a month saying how good she is!"
Donations of dog and cat food, kitty litter, blankets and towels, will be collected for the rescue shelters and are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate, please bring either dry or canned food with you to the PupScout Troop 8 tent.
