A young couple and their 2-month-old baby are lucky to be alive after a gunman opened fire on the car they were driving in Thursday evening.
Burbank police were dispatched about 5:30 p.m. to the 8600 block of S. New England Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired.
Police say the couple were returning home from shopping when they noticed they were being followed by another car.
Burbank police Division Chief Mike Dudlo said, “When they reached the intersection of 86th and New England, the victims made a left turn from southbound New England to eastbound 86th Street. As they did this, they observed the offending vehicle enter the intersection as it was still southbound and stop. The victims advised that is when the unknown driver fired several shots at their vehicle.”
The couple’s car was struck by three bullets but no one in the car or area was injured by the gunfire.
The shooter was last seen driving southbound on New England Avenue.
The gunman’s car was described as a dark colored Dodge Charger with tinted windows. No further vehicle, license plate, or offender information was obtained according to Dudlo.
Burbank and neighboring police departments searched the area but were unable to locate the shooter. Evidence technicians recovered several shell casings from the scene.
Police did not give a motive for the shooting. An investigation into the incident continues.
