Police confirmed today that an automobile collision in Burbank last week has claimed the life of a man.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on July 1, Burbank police and fire units were dispatched to a traffic accident in the 8200 block of State Road. Burbank Police Sergeant William Casey said a white Nissan was driving northeast bound on State Road when it traveled into the oncoming lanes and struck a gray Ford head on.
According to witnesses, the two people in the Ford had to be extricated by firefighters. A man occupying the passenger seat was quickly freed from the wreckage while the female driver remained pinned in the vehicle. Rescuers used saws to cut away the roof and other portions of the mangled car to remove her.
Victims from both vehicles were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for medical treatment.
Police declined to release names citing a pending investigation but said the passenger of the Ford succumbed to his injuries yesterday and was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago.
The crash remains under investigation by Burbank police and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. Sergeant Casey said further details will be released at a later date.
