Charges have been filed in last week's deadly automobile collision that claimed the life of an elderly Chicago man. The crash occurred July 1 shortly before 7:00 p.m. in the 8200 block of State Road.
Burbank police have charged Nicholas Raspanti, 42, Hickory Hills, with two counts of aggravated DUI in connection with the crash. Raspanti was transported to the Cook County Fifth District Courthouse in Bridgeview where he appeared before Judge Peter Felice, who ordered him held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
According to police, Raspanti was driving a white Nissan northeast bound on State Road when he traveled into the southwest bound lane and struck a gray Ford head on.
The two persons in the Ford had to be extricated by firefighters. Rescuers used saws to cut away the roof and other portions of the mangled car to remove them. The victims from both vehicles were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment.
One of the Ford’s passengers - Jozef Brzek, 77, Chicago, died from his injuries Sunday.
A memorial website identified Brzek as a member of the clergy and Pastor of Divine Word Polish National Catholic Church for over 25 years. Father Brzek will lie in state Wednesday, July 9 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Divine Word Parish, 3842 W. 57th St., Chicago. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m.
