Burbank firefighters responded about 1:30 p.m. to a house fire in the 7800 block of S. McVicker Avenue. Fire crews from Oak Lawn, Bedford Park, Bridgeview, and Roberts Park assisted the Burbank Fire Department in swiftly bringing the fire under control.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the residence as firefighters broke out both the front and back windows of the home. Flames were not visible from the street.
A man who did not wish to be identified, was working on the house next door when he said he heard shouts and saw a man and a woman emerge from the house covered in smoke and soot.
Division Chief Mike Dudlo of the Burbank Police Department said two victims were being treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation that probably would not require hospitalization. Dudlo said the fire started in the basement of the house and confirmed that the family's pet dog did not survive the fire.
There was no visible fire damage to the exterior of the home. The extent of interior damage is unclear although the house seems to have suffered heavy smoke damage. According to the real estate website Zillow, the 5 bed, 2 bath house built in 1960 is currently listed for sale at $229,900.
