The Burbank Fire Department was summoned to the scene of a car fire in the 6000 block of West 80th Street about 9:15 p.m. Monday night. The fire was quickly extinguished but the red Mazda Miata suffered extensive damage. Burbank police said no one was injured in the incident.
Warren Bellinger of Burbank was outside enjoying the waning hours of the long labor day weekend with friends when he said he saw a truck speeding westbound on 80th Street. Bellinger said he thought that somebody in the truck may have tossed a firework into the Miata because he heard an explosion and then saw the car burst into flames.
Burbank police and fire officials carefully examined the vehicle and surrounding area before releasing the Miata to be towed away.
