Four people were hurt when a Chevy Blazer hit the rear-end of a Pace bus about 6:46 p.m. Monday evening. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of West 79th Street near Central Avenue.
According to police, the driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was a 17 year-old minor with a learners permit, accompanied by a licensed passenger. The accident happened when the SUV, driving behind the stopped bus in the right lane, attempted to change lanes but was unable to do so due to traffic thus resulting in a collision with the bus.
Four passengers aboard the bus were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with what police described as “minor, non-life threatening injuries.” Neither the driver nor the passenger of the Blazer reported any injuries.
It appeared that the bus received only slight damage to its rear bumper while the Blazer sustained moderate damage to its front-end.
The driver of the SUV was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
