Police charged Almir Nuhanovic of the 7800 block of Natchez Avenue, Burbank, with possession of a firearm without a FOID card, possession of ammunition without a FOID card, and reckless conduct, according to Division Chief Mike Dudlo, of the Burbank Police Department.
Officers responded to the area of 78th Street and Natchez Avenue around 11:20 p.m., Oct. 25, after neighbors reported hearing several gunshots. A preliminary search of the area failed to turn up any signs of the shooter.
About an hour later, an officer who remained in the area heard a second volley of gunshots and notified other units. Responding officers noticed a man, later identified as Nuhanovic, standing in the front doorway of his home and spotted several spent shell casing on the steps of his porch, according to Dudlo.
“Officers ordered the subject to show his hands but the subject refused and slammed the door on the officers,” Dudlo said in an email. “Attempts to get the resident [Nuhanovic] out of the residence were successful and officers cleared the home to make sure no persons were injured.”
No one was found inside the home but police observed several guns in plain view while looking for others, according to Dudlo.
Police secured a search warrant for the residence Wednesday morning. The search turned up several weapons.
“Officers recovered several guns, including two handguns and one AR-type rifle,” Dudlo said.
No injuries or property damage have been reported.
Nuhanovic is due in court Nov. 28 to answer the charges.
