An 18 year-old Burbank man was wounded Sunday when another man opened fire in a parking lot of a Burbank strip mall.
Division Chief Mike Dudlo of the Burbank Police Department said the shooting happened about 1:40 p.m. in a parking lot located at 5404 West 79th Street. The strip mall houses several small businesses and was once anchored by a Walgreens store which relocated a few blocks west on 79th Street.
According to Dudlo, the victim was struck in the abdomen and upper right thigh by bullets fired by a small caliber handgun. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he underwent surgery. Authorities believe he will make a full recovery.
Police did not release the victim's name. No one else was injured in the incident.
Police are searching for the shooter who was described as a black male but have few other details. “The victim has not been cooperative with investigators and is refusing to prosecute,” Dudlo said.
“While the investigation is on-going, the incident is believed to be drug related,” Dudlo said. “All indications are the victim knew the offender.”
