Burbank police described the victim of Tuesday night's house fire as a white male but the man remained unidentified as of Wednesday evening.
A press release issued by the Burbank Police Department said the identity of the deceased has yet to be established due to the body being burned beyond recognition.
The victim's remains were transported to the Cook County medical examiner's office. A cause of death has not yet been determined but the medical examiner advised there were no signs of trauma or foul play observed about the body. Toxicology results which could help determine a cause of death are pending.
According to police, the medical examiner hopes to identify the victim through DNA tests.
DNA samples collected from the victim will be compared to samples collected from family members of the homeowner. Results are pending analysis by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab and may not be known for several days.
Police have declined to release the name of the homeowner until the victim has been positively identified. ❒
