Prairie Trails Public Library recently announced on their website that an extensive flooring replacement project will force the library to close for five weeks. The library will be closed Thursday, August 7 through Monday, September 15 as work crews relocate library materials, repair the underlying concrete slab, and install new flooring materials.
A newsletter posted on their website and set to be mailed to residents states, “The last time the library was closed for the installation of carpeting was in 1999, fifteen years ago. It has seen a great deal of wear and tear over the years with the thousands of patrons who have visited our facility.”
The closing was timed to coincide with the time frame the library traditionally sees the least amount of use by patrons.
The project was anticipated and planned for by the Board of Trustees. The newsletter emphasizes, “The monies have therefore been set aside to pay for this anticipated endeavor. We wish to be extremely clear – there has been NO tax increase – NO loan – NO bonds taken to cover the cost of this project.”
About 90 percent of the library will receive new flooring including the youth services department, adult services department, the circulation department and all staff offices.
Prairie Trails staff recognizes the closing will be an inconvenience and have developed these guidelines for library patrons to keep in mind during this time period:
DATES OF CLOSURE:
August 7 through September 13, 2014
Last day open to the public before project begins: Wednesday, Aug. 6 – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
First day open to the public after project ends: Monday, Sept. 15 – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
No library services will be offered during the closing. Patrons ARE able to use their library cards at neighboring libraries within the RAILS system.
During this time frame:
Patrons with library cards that expire before October 2014 are asked to come to the Prairie Trails before August 6 to renew them so they may be used at neighboring libraries during the closure.
