A road rage incident that began in Chicago ended in a multi-car accident in Burbank Saturday afternoon.
Police say the altercation began Sept. 14, 2013 when two vehicles were in involved in a minor traffic crash in the parking lot of the Home Depot located at 87th and State Street in Chicago. A high speed chase developed between the drivers of a white 2001 Ford E350 van and a tan 1997 Buick Park Avenue.
Although the exact route of the chase is not known, police say the vehicles careened recklessly through Chicago and Evergreen Park before entering Burbank where the road rage fueled pursuit proceeded northbound on Cicero Avenue then westbound on 79th Street. About 2:30 p.m. the two offending vehicles were involved in a collision along with two additional cars (4 vehicles total) near 79th Street and Newland Avenue.
Several passengers in the vehicles were injured. Burbank paramedics transported the victims to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Both drivers of the offending vehicles were placed into custody by the Burbank Police at the scene of the accident. Arrested were: Ruben A. Rosado, 31, of the 4600 block of Vernon Ave., Brookfield, IL (driver of the Ford E350 van) and Calvin L. Spencer, 29, of Chicago, IL (driver of the Buick Park Avenue).
Both men have been charged with Reckless Driving; Driving Too Fast for Conditions; Improper Overtaking; Improper Lane Usage; Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle among other charges.
When questioned by Burbank police officers, both Rosado and Spencer admitted they were involved in several additional accidents along the route of their chase in Chicago and Evergreen Park.
After posting bond, Rosado and Spencer were released to the Evergreen Park Police Department for further investigation.
