A 19-year-old Chicago man was robbed at gunpoint in his motel room in what police characterized as a drug-related robbery.
The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Monday night at the Budget Inn & Suites Motel, 8450 S. Cicero Ave., Burbank.
Police say Michael Robles, of the 8400 block of Karlov Ave., Chicago, called police to report an armed robbery. Robles told police that two men forced their way into his motel room and said the first man pointed a handgun at him while the second man stole several items including an iPhone, iPad, and $280.
Robles described both men as white males in their late teens or early twenties, about 5-foot-10. The first man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and had a gray handgun. They were last seen driving a 4-door Toyota Avalon northbound on Cicero Avenue.
Burbank police Division Chief Mike Dudlo said, “Once officers arrived, they observed several items in plain view within Robles's room used for the consumption and sale of cannabis.”
According to police, 5.75 grams of cannabis — wrapped in six ziplock bags, were found in the motel room.
“Robles told officers that the cannabis was for his personal use as well as for his sales,” Dudlo said.
Despite being a victim of a home invasion, Robles was arrested and is scheduled to appear Feb. 26 at the Bridgeview Courthouse on a charge of possession of cannabis.
Dudlo said the incident was not a random robbery. “There are currently no leads for the other offenders and the public can be assured Robles was the intended target in this incident.”
