One fatality was reported at a house fire in Burbank late Tuesday night.
Burbank firefighters responded to a call of a house fire in the 8600 block of South Major Avenue at approximately 11:55 p.m. Burbank police Division Chief Mike Dudlo said, “The call was placed by a resident who observed smoke and flames coming from the structure.”
The Burbank fire department was assisted by several other area agencies in extinguishing the blaze. After entering the structure, crews discovered the body of a person in the living room area of the house.
“The identity of this person is unknown at this time,” Dudlo said. “The remains were transported to the medical examiner’s office for identification and further investigation as to the cause and manner of death.”
The cause of the deadly fire is under investigation. Burbank police are working with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal to determine the circumstances of the fire and the death of the unknown individual.
"The are no indications anyone else was injured. At this point of the investigation, we do not know whether the body was that of the homeowner," Dudlo said.
