Division Chief Mike Dudlo of the Burbank Police Deaprtment said the woman was walking eastbound on 81st Street near Sayre Avenue around 7:45 p.m. when a man grabbed her in a bear hug from behind and threw her to the ground before attempting to sexually assault her.
Dudlo said the attacker tried pulling the victim’s pants off but the woman resisted causing him to flee.
“The woman fought for her life and was yelling for him to get off her,” Dudlo said.
The man had his pants unzipped with his penis exposed during the encounter, according to Dudlo.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of what police said were slight injuries. She was scratched and muddy, Dudlo said.
The attacker is described as an African-American man in his mid-20s, around 5’ 7” with a medium build, medium length Afro-hairstyle, wearing a dark hoodie, according to police.
Dudlo said it was raining hard at the time of the incident. Area residents said they did not hear or see the attack.
According to a press release, the attacker was last seen running northbound from the area. Investigators are checking nearby surveillance cameras to see if video exists of the suspect.
